Creating a new banking brand, identity and experience fit for the digital generation whilst building the foundations and principles for the original app design.

Where it started

 

Our starting points for the identity and experience design were three statements taken from Atom’s ambitious story.

These starting points allowed us to explore and develop creative routes for the identity and form foundations that have carried in to all of the brand thinking, UI and UX.

Route 1 - Atom is the bank in your wallet

Atom isn’t a remote bank, it’s closer to you than any branch could be. It’s in your pocket or handbag

Route 2 - Made of Atoms

To reconstruct a bank for the digital world, start with the smallest block, an atom. We want our customers to be no more than an atom away from their money.

Route 3 - Your Banking DNA

We believe that our banking needs and the way we manage our money is as unique as we are.

With this in mind our Initial exploration focused on DNA, and the concept of a unique identity for every customer which also allowed us to create truly personal customer experience.

Design Principles

Our principles shape and inform our design, interaction behaviour, and language we use.

It wants to feel human, without relying on human interaction.

It wants to be elegant, while majoring on value.

It will be anti-establishment, but also unquestionably safe.

From logo to app and beyond

The simplicity of our shapes, bold fresh colours, and consideration of digital from the very beginning has meant we've been able to use animation and instil a sense of movement and energy within the entire brand experience.

We use our shapes to help form the interface, guide the user - From subtle swiping 3D movement of our ‘lozenges’ to more playful elements and hidden easter eggs like shaking your phone to make your logo bounce, or using our shapes to add in the odd retro game like pong.

We’re providing smart forecasting tools that allow you to see upcoming payments, set smart rules around your statements and using nudges we can also suggest ways to make your money work harder for you.
